Altruista Health Donates to ACAP Educational Scholarships

Association for Community Affiliated Plans program
aims to strengthen safety-net workforce

(Sept. 4, 2019, Reston, Va.) – Altruista Health, an innovative provider of care management technology solutions for health plans and provider organizations, today announced it has donated $6,000 to the Association of Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) in support of educational scholarships for safety-net plan members who want to make a difference by working in healthcare and social services careers. Six gifts of $1,000 each will be applied to tuition costs for students pursuing education in those fields. In their award entries, ACAP health plan enrollees or family members described their desire to serve safety-net populations based on their encounters with the healthcare system and life experiences. A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to the overall winner through ACAP, with Altruista funding the scholarships to six finalists. The funds will be sent directly to the winners’ schools to be applied to tuition.

“The scholarship program is one of the most rewarding things we do at ACAP in a given year,” said ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray. “But at the same time, choosing just one winner is one of the hardest things to do – there are so many inspiring stories. We’re thrilled that the team at Altruista stepped up to provide some funding to our finalists and are grateful for their support.”

ACAP established the scholarship program in 2011 to provide crucial, timely financial assistance to deserving applicants, strengthen the public healthcare and social services workforce, and highlight the benefits of Medicaid managed care.

Altruista is a strong supporter of ACAP and is poised to manage 6 million contracted lives in 10 ACAP plans by year-end 2019. Earlier this year, Altruista was the exclusive sponsor for an ACAP members-only webinar series and sponsored an event at ACAP’s annual meeting. Altruista is ACAP’s exclusive Strategic Ally for care management applications

Altruista’s GuidingCare technology platform is particularly suited to safety-net plans, seamlessly bringing together all the information needed for comprehensive care plans that serve vulnerable members. The platform integrates preventive and acute care, chronic disease management, behavioral health, long-term care and community services. This patient-centered model of care is portable through the Mobile Clinician app and is especially helpful to ACAP plans trying to engage with members who may be transient or who live in rural areas.
