Altruista Health Honors T. Deepika Salome During Nurses Week

T. Deepika Salome is a senior clinical research team lead at Altruista's Hyderabad, India, office. She joined Altruista in 2010 and holds a master's degree in nursing from NTR University of Health Sciences.

Why did you go into nursing?
I come from a family full of nurses. My grandmother, aunts and mother are all nurses. Growing up and seeing the satisfaction they felt every day by helping people in their jobs inspired my own interest in the field. I just knew that I loved science. My interest and commitment to the field became even stronger as I found that I was truly making a difference in people’s lives. As a nurse, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of medical, research and educational settings.

How has your role as a nurse changed since you’ve been in nursing?
Although I don’t deal directly with patients, I know that I can have a greater impact on patient care through research and development. I use my clinical skills, knowledge and experience to help larger patient populations through technology. Using my research skills, I have been creating assessments that help prevent many diseases and harmful effects on patients.

What inspires you the most in your day-to-day work?
I work with a team that has a healthy work culture and a competitive environment, which helps me do a good job every day. Just keeping a calm confidence and knowing exactly where to push hard and where to slow down is something I have learned over time at Altruista.

How do the mission and/or values of Altruista support your nursing career?
My nursing background has enabled me to connect with users of the GuidingCare® application who mostly have care management backgrounds. The most exciting part of contributing to enhanced patient care using GuidingCare is applying my clinical judgment and research skills in designing, creating and testing of assessments and quality measures, in addition to training and supporting system users.
