Altruista Salutes Lydia Tang During Nurses Week

Lydia Tang, RN, BSN, MBA is a clinical subject matter expert at Altruista. She joined the company in December 2019.

What inspires you the most in your day-to-day work?

Working with my team, working with the clients, being asked to share my knowledge and opinions regarding the goal of making GuidingCare and Altruista Health best in class. I’m also inspired by working with my clinical subject matter experts, collaborating and learning from each other. So many brilliant folks I work with!

What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about the profession of nursing?

Nurses are tough. As a newbie nurse you have to pay your dues, but once you have proven yourself, you have a family. Once a nurse, always a nurse! Even if you are retired.

Why did you go into nursing?

I always wanted to be a nurse from the time I was a little girl. I’m not sure why since no one I knew was a nurse. I guess it was a calling. I know it’s sappy but I wanted to help people, but I also loved the biology/anatomy of the human body. Also being able to be that calming factor to people when dealing with medically scary situations.

Anything you'd like to add?

Nurses have inner strength. When there is a problem we jump in and figure out a way to deal with it. Nurses are lifelong learners, curious, smart, and extremely hard-working, but we also know how to shut it down and have fun!
