What inspired you to become a nurse?

Believe it or not, working with care managers! When I started in healthcare many moons ago, I started to see all the different career paths for nurses. Nursing isn’t limited to floor nursing. There are so many specialties in nursing that I do not think you could ever get bored. You can do anything from working with specialty populations to discharge planning to health insurance. You can become an advanced practitioner, work in technology, become a business consultant, or a nursing instructor. You can become a nurse attorney practicing healthcare law. If you are ready for a new challenge in your nursing career, you determine the next path to take and you are set to blaze a new trail in your career.

What is the best part of your nursing job?

Honestly, being able to talk to and see so many different people in so many different areas of the country and types of businesses that we support at Altruista. I love hearing all the ways in which our clients are supporting their members and how they are using the tools that they have available to them to drive better health outcomes. It is fascinating to see the healthcare challenges in different regions of our country, and yet to also see how many of those challenges we all face regardless of where we live.

What would you say to someone who is considering a career in nursing?

Do it!
